Revisiting Lexicographical Order Relations on Person Names∗
نویسنده
چکیده
When a bibliography is built by extracting references from a data base—as BibTEX does when it builds a bibliography for a LATEX document—these references are usually sorted w.r.t. author names. Nevertheless, most of implementations of lexical order relations on person names consist of concatenations of the parts of names: first name, particle, last name. We show that this may lead to incorrect results in some particular cases (some examples are given using BibTEX). Then we explain how this problem is solved in MlBibTEX, our multilingual reimplementation of BibTEX.

Proper Names and Polysemy: From a Lexicographic Experience
In the framework of the SI-TAL (Integrated Systems for the Automatic Treatment of Language) project the lexical coverage of IWN has been extended by adding, besides two grammatical categories not encoded in EWN (i.e. adjectives and adverbs), a set of proper names which are taken into consideration in this paper. This decision was also due to the high degree of incidence of proper names observed...
متن کاملBuilding and displaying name relations using automatic unsupervised analysis of newspaper articles
We present a tool that, from automatically recognised names, tries to infer inter-person relations in order to present associated people on maps. Based on an in-house Named Entity Recognition tool, applied on clusters of an average of 15,000 news articles per day, in 15 different languages, we build a knowledge base that allows extracting statistical co-occurrences of persons and visualising th...
متن کاملTwo variable orthogonal polynomials and structured matrices
We consider bivariate real valued polynomials orthogonal with respect to a positive linear functional. The lexicographical and reverse lexicographical orderings are used to order the monomials. Recurrence formulas are derived between polynomials of different degrees. These formulas link the orthogonal polynomials constructed using the lexicographical ordering with those constructed using the re...
متن کاملManaging order relations in MlBibTeX
Lexicographical order relations used within dictionaries are language-dependent. First, we describe the problems inherent in automatic generation of multilingual bibliographies. Second, we explain how these problems are handled within MlBibTEX. To add or update an order relation for a particular natural language, we have to program in Scheme, but we show that MlBibTEX’s environment eases this t...
متن کاملRevisiting the Lexicographic Ordering Constraint
We present a global consistency algorithm for the lexicographic ordering constraint on two vectors of n variables. The algorithm maintains arcconsistency, runs in O(n) time on posting plus amortized O(1) time per propagation event, and detects entailment or rewrites itself to a simpler constraint whenever possible. The algorithm was derived from a finite automaton operating on a string which ca...
